The hit K-drama Squid Game is ending with its third and final season on June 27, 2025, but its creator is not ruling out more stories from the same universe.

Director Hwang Dong-hyuk confirmed there will be no Season 4, but said there could be Squid Game spin-offs or prequels in the future.

Speaking at a press conference in Seoul on June 9, he said he is curious about what happens to the characters between seasons. “If the opportunity allows, I could explore their stories further,” he said.

Squid Game became Netflix’s most popular show after its release in 2021. The deadly survival series attracted global attention with its intense games and strong social themes. Season 1 holds the record with 265 million views, and Season 2 has 193 million views.

Season 3 picks up after the events of Season 2. The main character, Gi-hun (played by Lee Jung-jae), returns to the brutal games, determined to stop the mysterious group behind them. Lee Byung-hun also returns as the Front Man.

New cast members in Season 3 include Kang Ha-neul, Park Sung-hoon, Yim Si-wan, and Lee Jin-uk. Popular actors Wi Ha-jun and Park Gyu-young will also reprise their roles.

Hwang promised more shocking games in the final season, including a deadly jump rope and a hide-and-seek game in a maze.

Lead actor Lee Jung-jae said the series stands out because it talks about humanity, capitalism, and social inequality, along with personal character stories.

Actor Lee Byung-hun called the ending “bittersweet” and said he was proud to show the world the power of South Korean content.

While Squid Game will end with Season 3, the door remains open for possible spin-offs or new stories from its dark, gripping universe.
