Spotify HiFi to Offer Lossless Audio for $5 Add-On

Spotify HiFi

Spotify is working on a new higher-quality audio option called “HiFi.” A report says this option could cost $5 more per month on top of your regular Spotify subscription.

The HiFi option would provide better audio quality with “high-fidelity” or lossless audio tracks. This means the audio files would have higher bitrates and sound quality compared to standard music streams.

In addition to improved audio, the HiFi tier may also include new features to help create custom playlists and better organize your music library.

One potential feature is using AI to generate playlists based on activities, dates, or seasons. There could also be tools to filter playlists by mood or audio settings.

Spotify first announced plans for a HiFi option back in 2021, but it hasn’t launched yet. Recent app code leaks hint the tier is still in development, possibly using 24-bit FLAC lossless audio up to 2,117kbps bitrates.

While Spotify hasn’t officially confirmed pricing, the $5 add-on fee cited in the report would make a HiFi subscription around $17 per month when combined with the upcoming $11.99 Premium plan fee.

Spotify said it is always exploring ideas but has no new features to announce at this time regarding a HiFi plan. The company wants to improve its offerings and provide value to users.
