Spotify’s long-promised Hi-Fi tier remains far from launch, according to recent statements from CEO Daniel Ek.

First teased in 2021, the high-quality audio feature continues to be in development with no clear release date.

Key Points:

  • Expected pricing around $17-18 per month
  • Will offer “more control” according to CEO
  • Competitors already offer lossless audio at lower prices:
    • Amazon Music Unlimited: $9.99/month
    • Apple Music: $10.99/month
    • Tidal: $10.99/month

While Spotify has added other features like AI playlists, the Hi-Fi tier’s delay puts it behind competitors who have offered lossless audio for years.

When launched, the new tier would represent a significant price increase from Spotify’s current $11.99 basic plan.
