Spotify has unveiled plans for a new “Deluxe” subscription tier, priced at $18 per month. This premium offering aims to cater to audiophiles and music enthusiasts by providing enhanced audio quality and additional features beyond the current Premium plan, priced at $11.99 monthly.
CEO Daniel Ek teased the upcoming tier as a “much better version” of Spotify, promising lossless hi-fi audio and greater user control over the listening experience. Key features of the Deluxe plan will include:
- Lossless Hi-Fi Audio: Subscribers will have access to higher fidelity audio streams.
- Advanced Library Management: Enhanced organization tools and AI-driven playlist generation for a more personalized listening experience.
The announcement comes as Spotify continues to dominate the streaming market, boasting 626 million monthly active users and 246 million paying subscribers. However, the company faces stiff competition from rivals like Apple Music and Amazon Music, which already offer lossless audio in their standard plans.
While the exact launch date for the Deluxe tier remains uncertain, Spotify’s move signals its intent to capture a segment of the market willing to pay a premium for superior audio quality and features. This strategy could help Spotify differentiate itself in an increasingly competitive streaming landscape.
