Marvel Studios has confirmed that Spider-Man will return to his “street-level” origins in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) film Brand New Day.
Tom Holland’s version of Peter Parker, known for battling villains in outer space and across the multiverse, will now focus on more grounded, neighborhood-based adventures in New York City.
This marks a shift from recent Spider-Man stories like No Way Home and his appearances in Avengers films, where the character fought on a global and cosmic scale. The new film will highlight Spider-Man as the “friendly neighborhood” hero once again.
In a recent interview, Holland explained that the production will use real city locations to create a classic and realistic feel. Parts of the movie will be filmed in Glasgow, which often stands in for New York because of its similar architecture and easier filming conditions.
Marvel also confirmed that Spider-Man will not play a main role in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday film. Although a cameo is possible, his absence from the main cast suggests a break from large-scale battles for now.
Adding to the excitement, Jon Bernthal will return as Frank Castle, also known as The Punisher, in Brand New Day. His inclusion suggests a more street-focused story and opens the possibility for other New York-based heroes like Daredevil or Jessica Jones to appear.
Fans are also hopeful for crossovers with the upcoming Fantastic Four film. Actor Joseph Quinn, who will play Johnny Storm, has expressed interest in working with Holland’s Spider-Man. The two characters share a long history in Marvel Comics.
Despite the success of Spider-Man’s multiverse stories—No Way Home earned nearly $2 billion worldwide—the creative team believes now is the right time for a change. Familiar characters Michelle (MJ) and Ned will return, maintaining important parts of Peter Parker’s personal life in the new film.
