The Dreadful is an upcoming British Gothic horror film set in 15th-century England. The movie stars Sophie Turner and Kit Harington and is scheduled for release on February 20, 2026.

The film is written and directed by Natasha Kermani. It is inspired by the Japanese horror film Onibaba and takes place during the Wars of the Roses, a violent and unstable period in English history.

The story follows Anne, played by Turner, and her mother-in-law Morwen, played by Marcia Gay Harden. The two women live on the edges of society, struggling to survive in a harsh and isolated world.

Their lives change when Jago, played by Harington, returns from their past. His arrival brings fear and tension, along with a dark curse connected to a mysterious knight. The film blends Gothic horror with psychological and historical drama.

The supporting cast includes Laurence O’Fuarain as Seamus and Jonathan Howard as Brother Penros. The film focuses more on atmosphere and dread than jump scares.

Production was announced in February 2024, with filming taking place in Cornwall, England. Turner also served as a producer, alongside Luke Daniels, Patrick Hibler, Patrick Muldoon, and Greg Lauritano.

The casting reunites Turner and Harington years after their work together on Game of Thrones, drawing strong interest from fans. Turner has said the film challenged her emotionally and creatively, especially in intense scenes with Harington.

The Dreadful will be released in the UK by True Brit Entertainment and in the US by Lionsgate, debuting in select theaters and on digital platforms. The film is expected to appeal strongly to Gothic horror fans looking for a dark, character-driven story.
