At CES 2025, Sony introduced an exciting new technology called the Future Immersive Entertainment Concept. This system uses advanced displays to create a room where users can feel like they are inside the world of movies and games, including The Last of Us.

The concept works by surrounding people with multiple high-end 8K TVs. These displays show detailed environments, like the dark and eerie settings of The Last of Us.

Sony says the technology will even let users interact with the environment and, in the future, smell it. Yes, you might be able to smell the moldy Clickers and decayed surroundings from the game.

Sony’s idea is similar to ILM’s Volume, which is used to create virtual sets for movies and shows. However, Sony’s version focuses on interactivity and immersion, not just visuals.

While the tech looks promising, it is still in the early stages. Sony has not announced when it will be available to the public. For now, it remains a glimpse of what entertainment could look like in the future.

One day, this technology could combine with other innovations, like Disney’s infinite floor, to create realistic experiences. Imagine walking through a haunted house or playing games with characters that feel real.

Sony’s announcement has fans excited, but it might take years before this concept becomes reality. Until then, the idea of stepping into the world of The Last of Us remains a thrilling possibility.
