Sony Delays ‘Beyond the Spider-Verse’ to Late June 2027 for Bigger Box Office Impact

Fans of the Spider-Verse franchise will need to wait a little longer for the next chapter in Miles Morales’ story. Sony Pictures has announced that Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse will now release on June 25, 2027, moving back three weeks from its original June 4, 2027 date.

According to studio insiders speaking to Variety, the decision was made to better align the film’s release with the U.S. summer school break. By late June, all students nationwide will be on vacation, whereas only 65% of schools would have been closed on the original date. Sony is also hopeful that the new date will boost performance in international markets.

“Beyond the Spider-Verse” will conclude the trilogy that began with the Oscar-winning Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse in 2018 and continued with Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse in 2023. The first film earned $384 million globally, while the sequel grossed $690 million and received an Academy Award nomination for Best Animated Feature.

The upcoming third film is directed by Bob Persichetti and Justin K. Thompson, with a screenplay by Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and David Callaham. Lord and Miller, who created the franchise, will also produce the film alongside Amy Pascal, Avi Arad, and Jinko Gotoh.

At CinemaCon 2025, Lord teased the plot of the threequel, revealing that Miles Morales will be a fugitive hunted by other spider-people across the multiverse. He hinted at high stakes, questioning whether Miles’ friends, including Gwen Stacy, will be enough to help him save his family.

In addition to the Spider-Verse update, Sony also announced a new animated comedy titled Buds, scheduled for release on March 12, 2027.
