The Sonic the Hedgehog franchise has reached a significant milestone, crossing the $1 billion mark at the global box office.
Paramount Pictures’ third installment, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, has helped push the franchise’s total earnings to over $1.037 billion.
The first two films, released in 2020 and 2022, grossed $725.2 million combined, while the latest film has earned over $312 million since its release in December 2025.
Directed by Jeff Fowler, the Sonic films have been widely successful, with the third installment receiving positive reception, including an “A” CinemaScore and an 86% Certified Fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes.
The film also achieved the franchise’s best international box office opening, significantly outperforming its predecessors.
The Sonic the Hedgehog franchise has not only been successful in theaters but also in streaming, with the spinoff series Knuckles debuting on Paramount+ last year and becoming the No. 1 Kids & Family series on the platform.
Paramount has confirmed that a fourth film is already in development, with the filmmakers expressing excitement about the continued success of the franchise and the passion of the fans.
