Snap has confirmed that it will launch its first AR glasses for the public next year. These glasses will be called Specs and are expected to arrive in 2026.
The announcement was made during the Augmented World Expo (AWE) 2025 event in California. Snap’s CEO, Evan Spiegel, said the company is ready to bring AR to more people and called Specs “the most advanced personal computer in the world.”
Snap previously launched Spectacles 5 in 2024, but they were only available to developers through a subscription program. Specs will be Snap’s first AR glasses available to everyone.
While Snap did not reveal the full details of Specs, the company said they would feature see-through lenses that mix the real world with digital information. Snap also shared that it has spent over $3 billion on AR development over the last 11 years.
Besides Specs, Snap announced updates to Snap OS, including new AI tools powered by OpenAI and Google Gemini, and new features for developers building AR experiences.
Snap is also adding WebXR support to its browser and is working with Niantic Spatial to build an AI-powered map of the world using its Visual Positioning System.
Snap’s Specs will compete with other AR devices like Meta’s Ray-Ban Glasses and the upcoming Apple Vision Pro 2.
More details about Specs are expected to come closer to the 2026 launch.
