Should You Delete the DeepSeek App from Your Phone?

DeepSeek, the viral Chinese AI app, has skyrocketed to the top of both the Google Play Store and Apple’s App Store.

However, the U.S. Navy has banned it over “security and ethical” concerns, while Italy has blocked it entirely.

Security experts warn that the app collects extensive user data and sends it to China, leading to growing concerns over its use.

What Data Does DeepSeek Collect?

DeepSeek’s privacy policy admits to gathering sensitive information, including keystroke patterns, location data, and possibly even stored files.

While the app’s behavior doesn’t always align with its stated policy, the data it does collect is stored indefinitely in China.

Why Are Security Agencies Concerned?

The biggest issue isn’t just data collection—it’s how the platform processes and uses that data. Reports of cyberattacks and data breaches have surfaced, raising red flags about the app’s security.

Additionally, DeepSeek is confirmed to run on Huawei’s AI chips, potentially increasing national security concerns.

Should You Delete DeepSeek?

Experts advise against sharing sensitive information through the app and recommend restricting its access to your microphone, camera, and file storage.

While DeepSeek remains available for now, a U.S. ban or further restrictions seem likely. Security-conscious users are advised to uninstall it to minimize potential risks.
