Shinichiro Watanabe’s new sci-fi anime, LAZARUS, will premiere in April 2025. The announcement came from the official X (formerly Twitter) account of the anime. A new visual showing the main characters was also released.
Watanabe, known for legendary works like Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo, is the creator and director of LAZARUS.
The anime is produced by MAPPA, with SOLA ENTERTAINMENT handling planning. The script is written by Dai Sato, Takahiro Ozawa, and Tsukasa Kondo. Chad Stahelski, famous for his work on John Wick, is the action supervisor.
The music is composed by Kamasi Washington, Bonobo, and Floating Points.
The story is set in 2052. The world enjoys peace thanks to a drug called Hapna, created by neuroscientist Dr. Skinner. Hapna eliminates pain but has a deadly secret: it kills users after three years. When Skinner disappears and returns as a villain, a team called Lazarus must stop him and save humanity.
Fans can expect intense action, deep storytelling, and stunning visuals when LAZARUS airs on TV Tokyo in April 2025.
