Sentimental Value Trailer Teases A Cannes-Winning Film on Family and Forgiveness

NEON has released the first trailer for Sentimental Value, the new family drama directed by Joachim Trier. The film recently won the Grand Prix at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival and received a 15-minute standing ovation from the audience.

Sentimental Value stars Renate Reinsve, reuniting with Trier after their successful collaboration on The Worst Person in the World. The cast also includes Stellan Skarsgård and Elle Fanning.

The story follows Nora, a stage actress mourning her mother’s death, who must face her estranged father Gustav, a once-famous director trying to make a comeback. Gustav offers Nora the lead role in his autobiographical screenplay, but she refuses.

Instead, he gives the part to a Hollywood star, played by Fanning. The film explores the complex and tense relationship between Nora and her father.

Critics have praised the film for its strong performances, especially the emotional chemistry between Reinsve and Skarsgård. The drama addresses themes of family estrangement and reconciliation, offering a nuanced look at father-daughter relationships.

Sentimental Value is set to release in theaters on November 7, 2025, and is considered an early contender for the upcoming awards season.
