A former Rockstar Games animator believes Grand Theft Auto 6 is already playable from start to finish, with the development team now primarily focused on eliminating bugs.
Mike York, a former Rockstar developer who worked on GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2, shared his thoughts in an interview with Kiwi Talkz.
While the game is still in development, York speculated that Rockstar is currently in the testing and polishing phase, ensuring the game is as smooth as possible before release.
“They’re probably still making a few new things here and there or adding to things here and there, of course, but I would assume that the game’s probably playable now,” York said.
He explained that Rockstar’s massive open-world games come with unique challenges, as players can interact with the environment in unpredictable ways.
York also recalled his experience working on GTA 5, where the team would playtest the game for 8 to 10 hours a day, a process likely being repeated for GTA 6.
With GTA 6 set for a 2025 release, speculation remains about whether Rockstar will meet the deadline or face potential delays, as has happened with previous major titles.
For now, it appears that the long-awaited game is approaching the finish line, with Rockstar working to squash any remaining bugs before its highly anticipated launch.
