Sony’s next-gen PlayStation 6 (PS6) might launch sooner than expected, with the chip design reportedly already completed.
According to reliable leaker KeplerL2, the PlayStation 6’s System on Chip (SoC) design is now finished and is entering pre-silicon validation, with the first batch of chips set for production testing in late 2025. This timeline suggests that Sony could release the PS6 as early as late 2027.
While Microsoft’s leaked court documents suggest the next-gen Xbox and PlayStation 6 could launch in 2028, this new information places the PS6’s release ahead of schedule.
Sony’s usual console release cadence supports this, as the PS3, PS4, and PS5 all followed a similar 7-year cycle. The PS6’s chip is expected to feature AMD’s Zen 6 architecture, possibly built on TSMC’s 3nm or 2nm process.
Additionally, the PS6’s GPU is set to use a unified UDNA architecture, a departure from earlier RDNA designs. This aligns with Sony’s continued partnership with AMD, which took over the PlayStation chip contract from Intel in 2022.
Given the progress, a late 2027 PS6 launch seems increasingly likely, potentially putting it ahead of Microsoft’s next-gen Xbox release.
