Petition to Rename Birmingham Airport After Ozzy Osbourne Gains Over 12,000 Signatures

Ozzy Osbourne

More than 12,000 people have signed a petition calling for Birmingham Airport to be renamed “Ozzy Osbourne International”, in tribute to the late heavy metal icon who passed away on July 22, 2025, at the age of 76.

The petition, which rapidly gained momentum within just 48 hours of its launch, honors Ozzy Osbourne—the legendary frontman of Black Sabbath—for his profound influence on music and his deep connection to Birmingham, the city where he was born and raised.

Supporters of the campaign argue that renaming the airport would be a fitting tribute to Osbourne’s lasting cultural legacy, much like how John Lennon Airport in Liverpool and George Best Airport in Belfast honor hometown heroes in the UK. Many believe that Osbourne’s pivotal role in shaping the genre of heavy metal has left an indelible mark not just on Birmingham, but on global music history.

The petition also references Osbourne’s recent Freedom of the City of Birmingham award, which he received alongside the original members of Black Sabbath, recognizing their contributions to the city’s cultural identity.

As of now, officials at Birmingham Airport have not commented on the proposal. Still, the growing number of signatures shows widespread public support and reflects the affection fans continue to hold for the rock legend.

If successful, this renaming would serve as a high-profile, permanent memorial to Osbourne, symbolizing the city’s pride in one of its most iconic figures.
