The infamous Peaky Blinders gang is making the leap from television to the big screen, and Thomas Shelby himself, Cillian Murphy, is leading the charge.

Netflix has greenlit a feature film based on the beloved British crime drama, with creator Steven Knight penning the screenplay.

Murphy, who won an Oscar for his performance in Oppenheimer, will reprise his iconic role as the cunning and ruthless Tommy Shelby. In a statement, the actor expressed his excitement, saying, “It seems like Tommy Shelby wasn’t finished with me… It is very gratifying to be re-collaborating with Steven Knight and Tom Harper on the film version of Peaky Blinders.”

While plot details are being kept under wraps, Knight promises an “explosive chapter” in the Peaky Blinders story. “I’m genuinely thrilled that this movie is about to happen. It will be an explosive chapter in the Peaky Blinders story. No holds barred. Full on Peaky Blinders at war,” he stated.

Tom Harper, who directed episodes in the series’ first season, is set to helm the film. Harper reminisced about the show’s early days, saying, “When I first directed Peaky Blinders over 10 years ago, we didn’t know what the series would become, but we did know that there was something in the alchemy of the cast and the writing that felt explosive. Peaky has always been a story about family – and so it’s incredibly exciting to be reuniting with Steve and Cillian to bring the movie to audiences across the world on Netflix.”

The Peaky Blinders movie marks a significant milestone for the franchise, transitioning from the small screen to the big screen. With its gritty portrayal of crime and family dynamics in post-World War I Birmingham, the series has captivated audiences worldwide.

Now, fans can look forward to an even more immersive and explosive experience as the Shelby family’s saga continues on the silver screen.
