Oura Smart Rings Can Now Tell When You’re Getting Sick

Oura has introduced a new feature called Symptom Radar, which flags early signs of respiratory illness.

This feature, rooted in research from the COVID-19 pandemic, isn’t diagnostic but serves as a warning light for when your body shows signs of stress before symptoms appear.

Symptom Radar works by tracking key metrics like resting heart rate, heart rate variability, temperature trends, and breathing rate.

If significant changes are detected from your usual baseline, the Oura app notifies you whether no, minor, or major signs of illness are present. In cases of significant signs, the app suggests you enter Rest Mode to prioritize recovery.

Originally launched in beta in April, Symptom Radar has now been fine-tuned with a larger data set and will be available to Oura Ring Gen 3 and Gen 4 users starting December 11th.

Although not 100% accurate, the feature offers a helpful insight into your body’s health trends, even providing a historical graph to track recovery over time.

While it can’t tell if you’re dealing with a cold, flu, or COVID-19, Symptom Radar offers a useful early warning to help users stay ahead of illness and focus on rest before symptoms hit.
