Nvidia RTX 5070 Launch Pushed to March—Is AMD to Blame?

Nvidia’s highly anticipated RTX 5070 GPU has reportedly been delayed until early March, just as AMD prepares to launch its Radeon RX 9070 series.

The mid-range GPU, originally expected to launch this month alongside its RTX 5070 Ti sibling, is now rumored to arrive later, likely as a strategic move against AMD’s upcoming RDNA 4 cards.

Nvidia Adjusts Release to Match AMD’s RX 9070 Series

According to renowned tipster MEGAsizeGPU, Nvidia is delaying the RTX 5070’s launch to coincide with AMD’s RX 9070 XT and RX 9070.

This move suggests Nvidia might be preparing competitive pricing and marketing strategies, as leaked benchmarks indicate the RX 9070 XT rivals the RTX 4080 Super in rasterization performance.

At CES 2025, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang announced the RTX 5070, featuring the GB205 GPU with 48 SMs (6,144 CUDA cores), 12GB of GDDR7 memory, and a 192-bit interface. With 672 GB/s bandwidth, the RTX 5070 was expected to launch at $549, which is $50 cheaper than the RTX 4070’s launch price.

However, despite Huang’s claims that the RTX 5070 matches the RTX 4090 with Multi Frame Generation (MFG), industry experts warn that real-world performance may differ.

Given that the RTX 5080 barely outperforms the RTX 4080 Super by 9%, expectations for a major generational leap in performance are now more measured.

Nvidia vs. AMD: Battle of the Mid-Range GPUs

The AMD RX 9070 series will reportedly ship with 16GB of memory, making them more suitable for 4K gaming. In contrast, the RTX 5070’s 12GB VRAM could struggle with memory-intensive titles.

While Nvidia’s Neural Texture Compression (NTC) technology aims to improve memory efficiency, it is still in its early adoption stages.

With both pricing and VRAM capacity becoming key factors, it remains to be seen how Nvidia positions the RTX 5070 against AMD’s RX 9070 lineup.

The retail availability of the RTX 5070 remains uncertain, but the delay hints at a calculated move by Nvidia to counter AMD’s upcoming GPU launch.
