Nvidia DLSS 4 Debuts in Cyberpunk 2077 with Stunning Results

CD Projekt Red’s patch 2.21 for Cyberpunk 2077 has made it the first game to support Nvidia’s DLSS 4 technology.

While Nvidia’s RTX 5090 graphics cards won’t be available until January 30, owners of RTX 40-series GPUs can already experience DLSS 4 by updating through the Nvidia app.

The update introduces Multi Frame Generation, an AI-powered feature that generates up to three frames per traditionally rendered frame, boosting performance on RTX 50-series GPUs.

Additionally, DLSS 4 improves single-frame generation with reduced memory usage and offers two model options: the CNN model and the new Transformer model. The latter enhances stability, lighting, and motion detail for all RTX cards.

Gamers on the Cyberpunk 2077 subreddit are testing the Transformer model with path tracing on RTX 40-series GPUs. While side-by-side comparisons show subtle improvements in texture and detail, the performance gains are significant without framerate drops.

RTX 50-series cards will showcase DLSS 4’s full potential with ultra-high framerates and enhanced graphics. However, even 40-series users benefit from these advancements, demonstrating Nvidia’s commitment to improving performance across generations.

Though only 75 titles currently support Multi Frame Generation, Cyberpunk 2077 sets the stage for more developers to adopt DLSS 4 in the future.
