No Season 6, But Stranger Things Spin-Off Confirmed for New Era

The final episode of Stranger Things season 5 aired on Netflix on New Year’s Eve at 5pm PT (8pm ET). The two-hour finale ends the main series, but creators say the “Stranger Things Universe” will continue.

The Duffer brothers announced a spin-off in 2022. It features new characters in a new decade. It will not focus on the Upside Down, Vecna or Eleven’s “siblings” from season 2.

The spin-off is a “clean slate” with few links to the original. A small hint appears in the season 5 finale. The Duffers are involved but not showrunners. They have moved to Paramount but will oversee the project.

The spin-off concept is secret from Netflix. No release date is set, likely not before 2027. Director Shawn Levy is also attached.

An animated series, Stranger Things: Tales From ’85, is in development. It is set during season 2 and styled like Arcane. No date yet, possibly 2026.

The main cast, including those aged out of 1980s roles, will not return.
