Nintendo Switch 2 May Be Less Powerful Than Expected

Digital Foundry suggests the Nintendo Switch 2 may not meet earlier expectations of being as powerful as the PS4 Pro. Instead, it is likely closer to the base PS4 and Xbox One in performance.

The console’s chipset, designed by Nvidia and produced by Samsung, supports AI upscaling like Nvidia’s DLSS.

This could allow the Switch 2 to output 4K resolution in docked mode and run games at 30 FPS, despite its modest hardware.

Is the Switch 2 Underpowered?

Nintendo has always focused on innovation over raw power. The original Switch succeeded with unique features despite being underpowered compared to its competitors.

Similarly, the Switch 2 might prioritize portability and compatibility with modern games.

What to Expect

Rumored launch titles include Elden Ring, Gotham Knights, and Hades 2. While the Switch 2 may not compete directly with PS5 or Xbox Series X, its portability and DLSS support could make it a compelling choice.

Nintendo is expected to reveal the console by March 31, 2025, with a release later this year.
