The upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 may resemble the PlayStation 4 in raw specs, but new insights from CD Projekt Red’s VP of Technology, Charles Tremblay, reveal it surpasses PS4 in several important ways — especially when running a major title like Cyberpunk 2077.
In an interview with IGN, Tremblay confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077 will launch on Nintendo Switch 2 on June 5, complete with the Phantom Liberty expansion.
The port, which started development in summer 2023, had to overcome architectural differences from the x86-based systems the game was originally built for.
However, advanced tools like NVIDIA DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling) helped optimize performance and improve visuals significantly.
Tremblay emphasized that the absence of a mechanical hard drive, expanded RAM, and DLSS support give the Switch 2 a meaningful edge over the PS4.
These features allow for better texture loading, faster performance, and more consistent frame rates. The game runs at a stable 30 FPS, with an optional 40 FPS mode, which CDPR considers a solid middle ground compared to modern 60 FPS standards.
While it won’t match PC visuals, the Switch 2 version is designed for smooth, enjoyable gameplay tailored to the handheld console.
