Rockstar Games is preparing to release the next-gen version of GTA V and GTA Online for PC, bringing long-awaited upgrades to the platform.
Initially announced in 2020, the “Expanded and Enhanced” version was meant to launch in 2021 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
However, delays pushed its release to 2022, with the PC version left out. Now, Rockstar has confirmed that PC players will soon experience the advanced features of the next-gen release.
Release Date Speculation
While no official date has been announced, insiders suggest the update could arrive in March or April 2025, possibly aligning with Take-Two Interactive’s financial reporting.
Ray Tracing and Visual Enhancements
The next-gen version features ray tracing for reflections, shadows, and ambient occlusion, already available on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
With PC’s superior hardware capabilities, fans are eager to see even greater visual improvements.
Will You Need to Buy It Again?
Data suggests the next-gen version will be a separate purchase rather than a free update. This mirrors Rockstar’s approach with Red Dead Redemption 2 and Red Dead Online.
Save Migration
Rockstar plans to allow single-player save migration for the PC version, similar to how console players migrated their saves to next-gen platforms.
However, it remains unclear if console save data can transfer to the new PC version.
Career Progress Tracking
The Career Progress system, a feature of next-gen GTA Online, will also come to PC. Rockstar has been tracking player progress, meaning rewards for past activities may be retroactively applied.
Xbox Game Pass Integration
There’s speculation that the next-gen version could debut on Xbox’s PC Game Pass, following Rockstar’s addition of Game Pass support in 2024.
Stay tuned for updates on GTA Online‘s PC release and other Rockstar Games news.
