Vivo has revealed the X Fold 5, a new foldable phone that will directly compete with Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7. The official image shows a large internal display with advanced screen features.

The X Fold 5 uses LTPO 8T panels, which help provide smoother visuals for browsing and gaming. It also supports up to 4,500 nits brightness, far brighter than the Galaxy Z Fold 6, which peaks at 2,600 nits. Vivo also added high-frequency PWM dimming to reduce eye strain when using the phone.

For better color quality, Vivo worked with Zeiss Master Color to improve color reproduction.

One standout feature is the IPX8/IPX9 water resistance rating. This makes the X Fold 5 the first foldable phone that can survive up to 3 meters underwater.

Vivo even claims it can open and close 1,000 times underwater at a 1-meter depth. While that’s a rare situation, it shows how durable the phone is.

The phone also includes a mystery physical button on the side. Vivo didn’t explain its purpose, but it could be for AI features or user customization.

Vivo’s X Fold 5 is set to launch before the Galaxy Z Fold 7, making the foldable phone market even more competitive this year.
