Netflix’s ‘KPop Demon Hunters’ Soundtrack Earns $3.2 Million with Three Billboard Hits

KPop Demon Hunters

The soundtrack of Netflix’s surprise animated hit KPop Demon Hunters has earned more than $3.2 million in revenue, with its singles performing strongly on the Billboard Hot 100.

Songs from the film, including Golden, Your Idol, and Soda Pop, have achieved unprecedented success, marking the first time in nearly 30 years that a soundtrack has placed three songs in the Hot 100 top 10.

The lead single, Golden, performed by HUNTR/X members EJAE, Audrey Nuna, and REI AMI, reached No. 1 on the Hot 100 dated August 16. The song has accumulated 1.4 million song equivalents in the U.S. and averages nearly 26 million on-demand streams per week.

Its streaming revenue alone is estimated at $1.39 million, according to Billboard and Luminate data. This performance has already surpassed the weekly streaming averages of last year’s hit Million Dollar Baby by Tommy Richman.

Other hits from the soundtrack include Your Idol, sung by the fictional rival group Saja Boys, which has generated nearly $1 million in revenue with 19.1 million average weekly streams, and Soda Pop, also by Saja Boys, bringing in $840,000 with 16.3 million weekly streams.

The success of the soundtrack has led to a remix by David Guetta, and Netflix plans to showcase the movie in select theaters later this month for a sing-along event. Additionally, Golden is expected to be submitted for Oscar consideration, which could further boost its streaming and airplay performance.

HUNTR/X, the film’s fictional demon-hunting K-pop group, now joins the ranks of legendary girl groups such as Destiny’s Child and The Supremes as one of fewer than two dozen female acts to score a No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100.
