Netflix Renews “The Eternaut” for Second and Final Season

Netflix has confirmed that its new hit sci-fi thriller “The Eternaut” will return for a second season.

The Spanish-language post-apocalyptic series, which premiered on April 30, has quickly become one of the streaming platform’s most successful shows.

Season 1 Success

“The Eternaut” earned impressive ratings on Rotten Tomatoes with a 93% critics score and 97% audience score.

All six episodes of the first season dropped at once, and the show immediately entered Netflix’s top 10 most-watched list.

Eight More Episodes Coming

Netflix’s Latin American programming chief Francisco “Paco” Ramos announced that season 2 will expand on the sci-fi concepts introduced in the first season.

Producer Matías Mosteirin confirmed the show will conclude with eight more episodes, completing the story adaptation.

About the Show

“The Eternaut” follows Juan Salvo (played by Ricardo Darín) and his friends as they fight for survival after a mysterious deadly snowfall wipes out most of the population.

The disaster turns out to be the beginning of an alien invasion, forcing survivors to band together to save Earth.

Faithful Adaptation

The series is based on an Argentine graphic novel by writer Héctor G. Oesterheld and illustrator Francisco Solano Lopez.

Mosteirin emphasized that season 2 will maintain the integrity of the source material while modernizing it for television: “We want to challenge ourselves in the second season just as we challenged ourselves in the first one.”

Release Date

Netflix has not yet announced when “The Eternaut” season 2 will premiere.
