Streaming giant Netflix is reportedly reducing the number of episodes for upcoming seasons of its hit sci-fi series 3 Body Problem. The move has raised questions about the long-term future of the show.
Season 1 of 3 Body Problem premiered in March 2024 and quickly became one of Netflix’s biggest launches. The series follows a group of scientists dealing with a mysterious alien threat to Earth and received several award nominations, including for major TV honors.
According to reports, Season 2 will have only six episodes. The first season had eight episodes. Sources also say Season 3 could be even shorter.
Documents suggest that the second and third seasons will have around 11 episodes combined. That means the final season may run for about five episodes.
The show was also one of Netflix’s most expensive productions. Reports say the first season cost about $20 million per episode.
Despite the high budget, the series performed strongly. It reportedly generated around 115 million viewing hours within its first week after release.
However, fewer episodes can sometimes signal a show is nearing its end. Streaming services often reduce budgets or episode counts when they plan to wrap up a series.
For example, The Umbrella Academy also received a shorter final season on Netflix after starting with larger episode counts in earlier seasons.
Netflix has not officially confirmed the episode changes yet. But if the reports are accurate, fans could see a shorter run for one of the platform’s biggest sci-fi shows.
