New Windows 11 Start Menu

Microsoft now lets Windows 11 testers try a new Start menu that is larger, scrollable, and easier to customize. This update first appeared in April but is now available officially for Windows Insider users.

The new Start menu puts all apps at the top level with a scrollable list. This means users no longer need to go to a second page to find their apps.

The menu also offers two new views: category and grid. The category view groups apps by type, while the grid view lists apps alphabetically like a traditional list.

Microsoft made the Start menu size adjust to the screen. On large screens, the menu shows eight columns of pinned apps and four columns of categories. Smaller screens show fewer columns.

There is a new button for mobile devices that opens or closes the Phone Link panel next to the Start menu. Users can also now choose which widgets appear on the lock screen and rearrange them.

A new update to the Windows 11 Gamepad lets users unlock their PC with a PIN using a game controller. This feature targets gaming devices like the ROG Xbox Ally.

This update improves Windows 11’s ease of use and customization, especially for gamers and users with different screen sizes.
