Meta has added two new free features to its Ray-Ban smart glasses to help people with low vision. These upgrades make it easier to understand and interact with the world.
First, the glasses can now give detailed descriptions of what they see. This helps users, especially those with vision impairments, by describing scenes and objects around them.
For example, the glasses can explain that there is a pathway leading to a grassy area with trees and water nearby. They can also identify items on a kitchen counter, like different food products.
Users can turn on this feature by going to their device settings in the Meta AI app and enabling “detailed responses” under Accessibility.
Second, Meta will soon add a “Call a Volunteer” feature. This lets users connect to a service called Be My Eyes. The app links blind or low-vision users with sighted volunteers worldwide. Volunteers see through the user’s glasses and help with tasks like picking out clothes or reading labels.
This new feature will arrive later this month, and users can sign up through the Meta AI app.
These improvements show Meta’s commitment to making technology more accessible and useful for people with vision challenges.
