Meta Developing Oakley Smart Glasses for Athletes

Meta is reportedly working on Oakley smart glasses designed for athletes, expected to launch later this year.

According to Bloomberg, the glasses will be based on Oakley’s Sphaera model, tailored for runners and cyclists, and will feature a centrally positioned camera for improved image capture.

This marks an expansion of Meta’s AI-powered eyewear lineup beyond its collaboration with Ray-Ban.

Oakley, owned by Luxottica, signals potential for Meta to partner with more brands under the Luxottica portfolio in the future.

Features and Future Devices

The Oakley glasses are expected to include features similar to Meta’s Ray-Ban collection, such as AI tools, voice commands, and photo/video capture, but will not feature a display.

Meta is also developing advanced smart glasses, codenamed Hypernova, featuring a built-in display for notifications, frame-mounted temple controls, and a wrist strap for additional interaction. These are slated for release later this year.

Additionally, Meta is reportedly exploring wearable devices like AI-powered earbuds with built-in cameras and smartwatches, aiming to compete with Apple’s AirPods and Watch.

These innovations align with Meta’s ongoing investment in AI, augmented reality, and virtual reality technologies.

Meta has not yet commented on these reports.
