A new Windows 10 update from Microsoft is causing major problems for many users. After downloading update KB5058379, users report being locked out of their systems by BitLocker Recovery screens or facing Blue Screens of Death (BSOD).
This update is mandatory and was meant to fix serious security issues. However, instead of helping, it’s breaking systems. Some users said the update brings up a screen asking for a recovery key. Others reported system crashes right after installation.
One user on Reddit shared that their computer crashed six minutes after restarting. Uninstalling the update didn’t help. Another said they had to change BIOS settings just to make their computer work again.
Microsoft says they are not aware of any issues, but user reports suggest otherwise. Fixing the issue may require disabling certain features like Intel TXT or VT for Direct I/O, which can be risky or complicated for average users.
This problem comes at a sensitive time. Support for Windows 10 ends in October 2025, and users are being pushed to upgrade or risk missing future security updates. Microsoft 365 apps will still get updates after that, but the operating system itself will not.
For now, Windows 11 users are not affected by this update issue.
Users are advised to be cautious and back up their systems before installing any updates.
