Lorde has revealed “Man Of The Year” as the second single from her upcoming fourth album, Virgin, following her recent return with the track “What Was That.”
The New Zealand singer first hinted at the song during her appearance at the 2025 Met Gala, where her outfit served as a subtle clue. Her look reflected the track’s themes of identity and gender expression.
On May 19, Lorde officially announced the single through her social media and newsletter, calling it “an offering from really deep inside me” and “the song I’m proudest of on Virgin.” The cover art was shot by photographer Talia Chetrit, adding to the personal tone of the release.
The following day, Lorde dropped an 18-second teaser on TikTok. The clip showed her by the ocean, paired with the caption: “I DIDN’T THINK HE’D APPEAR.” A week later, she posted another short video confirming the single’s release date.
Man of The Year Lorde Lyrics
Gliding through on my bike, gliding through
Like new from my recent ego death
Sirens sing overnight, violent, sweet music
You met me at a really strange time in my life
Take my knife and I cut the cord
My babe can’t believe I’ve become someone else
Someone more like myself
Who’s gon’ love me like this?
Oh, who could give me lightness?
Let it flow down to me
Love me like this
Now I’m broken open
Uh-uh
Now I go ’bout my day riding it like a wave
Playing it any way I want
Swish mouthwash, jerk off
Uh-uh-uh-uh-uh
Days go by in the haze, stay up and sleep late
Who’s gon’ love me like this?
Oh, who could give me lightness?
Way he flowed down through me
Love me like this
Now I’m broken open
Let’s hear it for the man of the year, uh-uh
Hear it for the man of the year, uh-uh
How I hope that I’m remembered, my
Gold chain, my shoulders, my face in the light, oh
I didn’t think he’d appear
Let’s hear it for the man of the year
Hear it for the man of the year
Let’s hear it for the man of the year
