Liverpool Football Club has unveiled a series of permanent tributes to commemorate forward Diogo Jota, who died in a car accident in Spain earlier this month alongside his brother, André Silva. These memorials aim to preserve Jota’s legacy within the club and across the wider football community.

Sculpture and Stadium Tributes

A permanent memorial sculpture will be created at Anfield using thousands of items left by fans after Jota’s passing, including scarves, shirts, and banners. Floral tributes left at the stadium will be composted and used to grow flower beds at Anfield and the AXA Training Centre — symbolizing the life and spirit Jota brought to Liverpool.

Number 20 Shirt Retired

In an historic first for the club, Liverpool has retired the number 20 jersey across all levels — including the men’s, women’s, and academy teams. The decision was made in agreement with Jota’s family, recognizing his unique role and lasting impact at Liverpool.

“Forever 20” Emblem and Fundraising

All Liverpool kits for the 2025–26 season will feature a special “Forever 20” emblem, keeping Jota’s memory alive on the pitch. Supporters can also continue to buy jerseys bearing “Diogo J. 20,” with proceeds going to the LFC Foundation. The funds will support a new grassroots football program launched in Jota’s name.

Worldwide Tributes and Memorial Space

Liverpool paid tribute to Jota during its pre-season tour in Asia, where players wore a custom patch with his name and number. Floral tributes were placed on pitches in Hong Kong, Yokohama, and Anfield. A minute of silence will be observed before Liverpool’s opening home game against Bournemouth on August 15.

Fans can also visit a temporary reflection area outside the Main Stand at Anfield, where they can pay respects and honor Jota’s memory.

Club and Community Support

The tributes follow an outpouring of grief from fans worldwide. Liverpool’s chairman and players have thanked supporters for their compassion and solidarity. The club is also working with the Football Association to coordinate additional tributes at major fixtures, including the Community Shield.

These initiatives reflect Liverpool FC’s deep respect for Diogo Jota and its commitment to keeping his legacy alive both on and off the field.
