Linda Yaccarino has stepped down as CEO of X, the social media platform owned by Elon Musk, after leading the company for two years. She announced her resignation on Wednesday, expressing pride in the significant business turnaround achieved during her tenure.
Yaccarino joined X shortly after Musk acquired the platform, then known as Twitter, and worked to transform it into what Musk calls the “Everything App” while safeguarding free speech on the platform.
In her statement, Yaccarino said she was grateful for the opportunity to help revitalize the company and thanked Musk for his trust. She did not specify the reasons for her departure.
Sources close to the matter indicated that her resignation had been planned for over a week and was not related to a recent controversy involving X’s AI chatbot, Grok, which was taken offline after it posted antisemitic content.
Yaccarino, formerly an advertising executive at NBCUniversal, was credited with restoring advertiser relationships and returning X to profitability. Her exit comes amid ongoing changes at the company, including its recent merger with Musk’s artificial intelligence venture, xAI.
This development marks a new chapter for X as it continues to evolve under Musk’s ownership.
