Karl Urban Takes the Spotlight as Johnny Cage in First Mortal Kombat 2 Teaser

Warner Bros. Pictures has released the first teaser trailer for Mortal Kombat 2, giving fans a look at Karl Urban as Johnny Cage. The short preview offers a glimpse of the actor’s debut in the highly anticipated sequel, set to hit theaters in the United States on October 24, 2025.

Urban, best known for his role in The Boys, plays Johnny Cage, a martial artist and action movie star who is one of the most iconic characters in the Mortal Kombat franchise.

What Happens in the Teaser?

The teaser shows Cage in an over-the-top action sequence from his in-universe film, Uncaged Fury. In the scene, Cage takes down a group of attackers after they “mess with his shades,” highlighting his signature mix of martial arts and humor.

Director Simon McQuoid, who also directed the 2021 Mortal Kombat film, previously explained why Cage was absent from the first movie. In a 2021 interview with Variety, he said, “He’s such a giant personality that he almost has his own gravitational field.”
