Kai Cenat made headlines during his livestream from the 2025 American Music Awards red carpet after a tense exchange with a Kanye West fan.
Around one hour and eight minutes into the stream, a man and his family approached Cenat. The man praised Kanye West for being outspoken and defended free speech.
He said, “We love Ye for being outspoken, regardless, because it’s America, and I think it’s a great thing to live in a free country. Don’t you, Kai?… God bless you, Kai.”
Kai Cenat was caught off guard. He responded firmly but politely, saying, “So, you really have to come to my stream, knowing my influence, to come on here and say that?… I think I want to protect my energy. But I’m going to politely ask you, get out of here, guys. Please! All right, I get it, but I don’t want that.”
The moment quickly spread online as fans shared clips of the exchange. Despite the clash, Cenat’s livestream also captured other highlights, including Eminem winning Favorite Male Hip-Hop Artist and SZA giving a shoutout to Streamer University during her acceptance speech for Favorite Female R&B Artist.
