BTS is officially back together after completing their mandatory military service. Fans around the world have waited for this moment for over two years. The last member, Suga, was discharged on Saturday, following RM, V, Jimin, and Jungkook earlier this month.
Many fans celebrated the moment at BTS Festa in Seoul, an annual event marking the group’s anniversary. For longtime ARMY members like Stephanie Prado from Brazil, the wait has been emotional and exciting. “I missed them so much,” she said, holding her official BTS lightstick.
However, BTS is returning to a different K-pop scene. During their military break, the industry faced new challenges. Album sales have dropped since their 2023 peak.
Big names like Blackpink have also slowed down group releases. New K-pop groups from the fourth and fifth generations have risen, changing the music scene with fresh styles and younger fan bases.
Critics say BTS’ return could help K-pop regain its global momentum. “Without BTS, a core pillar was missing,” said music critic Kim Young-dae.
While there’s no set date for their next album, BTS leader RM promised fans, “I will quickly make an album and return to the stage.” Solo tours from J-Hope and Jin are still ongoing, and Suga may stay out of the spotlight for a while after a recent controversy.
For now, fans are just happy to have BTS back.
