John Grisham’s Legal Drama ‘The Rainmaker’ Draws 2.2 Million Viewers

The Rainmaker

USA Network’s new legal drama, The Rainmaker, has launched with impressive viewership, drawing 2.2 million viewers in its first three days.

The series premiered as a simulcast across five networks and on Peacock, helping it become the most-watched original series premiere in the Versant portfolio since Resident Alien on Syfy in 2021.

Versant, the media company that owns USA Network, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, E!, Syfy, and Golf Channel, reported that The Rainmaker became the top-rated scripted cable original series premiere of 2025. The show attracted 39% more viewers than TNT’s Librarians: Next Chapter and has now reached 6.3 million viewers on linear TV.

The series, based on John Grisham’s novel, follows Rudy Baylor (Milo Callaghan), a new lawyer who faces courtroom veteran Leo Drummond (John Slattery) while uncovering conspiracies linked to a client’s son’s mysterious death. The cast also includes Madison Iseman, P.J. Byrne, Dan Fogler, Wade Briggs, Robyn Cara, and Lana Parrilla.

Produced by Lionsgate and Blumhouse, the series was developed by showrunner Michael Seitzman, who co-wrote the pilot with Jason Richman. Executive producers include Grisham, Jason Blum, and David Gernert. The project took six years to develop and received its series order in June 2024.
