Apple TV+ has released the first teaser trailer for Chief of War, a new historical drama series starring and co-created by Jason Momoa.

The nine-episode series is based on true events and told from an indigenous Hawaiian perspective. Momoa plays Ka’iana, a legendary warrior from the late 18th century.

The show follows his journey to unify the Hawaiian Islands as Western colonization begins to threaten their way of life.

The teaser features powerful battle scenes, scenic views of Hawaii, and a cast made up mostly of Polynesian actors. Joining Momoa are Luciane Buchanan, Temuera Morrison, and Cliff Curtis.

Chief of War will premiere globally on Apple TV+ with its first two episodes on August 1, 2025. New episodes will release weekly until the finale on September 19, which will be directed by Momoa himself.
