iPhone to Ditch Dynamic Island in Two-Year Plan

Apple plans to release an iPhone with a complete all-screen design in two stages over the next few years, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.

Next year’s iPhone models will feature a smaller Dynamic Island cutout at the top of the screen. Gurman reported this change in his Power On newsletter on June 22, 2025.

In 2027, Apple will release a special 20th-anniversary iPhone with no screen cutouts at all. This model will have curved glass edges, extremely thin bezels, and a true edge-to-edge display. It will be the first iPhone with a completely seamless screen design.

The Information’s Wayne Ma reported last month that the iPhone 18 Pro models will include Face ID technology hidden under the screen. These phones will only have a small hole for the front camera in the top-left corner.

Ma said the pill-shaped Dynamic Island would disappear completely. However, Gurman claims a smaller Dynamic Island will still exist next year. This creates some confusion about the exact timeline.

The first iPhone with both under-screen Face ID and an under-screen front camera appears set for a 2027 release.

Apple has slowly moved toward an all-screen design since 2017. The iPhone X replaced Touch ID and thick bezels with Face ID and a notch. The iPhone 14 Pro replaced the notch with the Dynamic Island in 2022.

The 20th-anniversary iPhone would complete Apple’s decade-long journey toward a phone with no visible interruptions on the screen.
