Apple’s next-generation iPhone SE is rumored to debut as early as next week.
While headlining features like the iPhone 14 design, USB-C, and an A18 chip with Apple Intelligence have been widely discussed, several other substantial rumors have gone under the radar.
One intriguing rumor suggests that the iPhone SE 4 might be renamed to iPhone 16E.
Aligning the iPhone SE with the rest of the iPhone naming lineup could provide clarity and justify a higher price tag than previous SE models.
However, this rumor comes from less reliable sources, so it should be taken with a grain of salt.
The iPhone SE 4 is expected to feature a 48MP main camera sensor, the same as the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus. This upgrade will improve photo quality over the iPhone 14 and previous SE models.
Additionally, it will enable 2x optical zoom by cropping into the middle 12MP of the frame, a feature introduced with the iPhone 14 Pro.
Back in 2019, Apple acquired Intel’s modem business and has been working to build modems in-house to transition away from Qualcomm. The iPhone SE 4 is expected to debut Apple’s first in-house modem.
While not expected to be high-end, this modem represents a significant step in Apple’s vertical integration efforts since transitioning to Apple Silicon on the Mac in 2020.
