Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro models, expected to launch in September 2026, may introduce a major upgrade to their camera system.
According to renowned Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the iPhone 18 Pro’s main rear camera will feature a variable aperture, a first for the iPhone lineup.
This new feature would allow users to control the amount of light entering the camera, similar to whatโs seen on professional DSLR or mirrorless cameras.
Currently, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro models use a fixed aperture, but with the iPhone 18 Pro, users could manually adjust the aperture to enhance their photography.
A variable aperture would also provide greater control over depth of field, allowing for more natural bokeh effects.
However, since smartphones have smaller image sensors, the impact of this change remains to be seen.
A larger sensor would further improve this effect, though it hasnโt been confirmed whether this will be part of the iPhone 18 Pro upgrade.
The new feature is expected to be powered by BE Semiconductor, which will supply the assembly equipment for the aperture blades.
