Apple is planning a significant redesign for its iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max models, according to a recent report from The Information.

The new design marks a departure from recent premium models by reintroducing aluminum to the device’s frame and back.

The proposed design features a unique part-aluminum, part-glass construction. The top portion of the back will feature a larger, rectangular aluminum camera bump, while the bottom half will incorporate a glass section to support wireless charging.

This represents a major shift from the titanium and glass design used in previous Pro models.

This redesign extends beyond the Pro models. Apple reportedly plans to switch all iPhone 17 models to aluminum frames, moving away from stainless steel and titanium materials.

The last time Apple used aluminum on its high-end models was before the iPhone X launch in 2017.

While the exact details of the aluminum-to-glass ratio remain unclear, the design suggests Apple is exploring innovative approaches to smartphone materials and construction.

The changes are part of a broader refresh of the iPhone lineup, which is expected to include the ultra-thin iPhone 17 Air.
