Instagram Rolls Out Repost Feature to Boost Sharing

Instagram Repost Feature

Instagram has launched a new repost feature that lets users share public reels and posts directly to their followers. This feature started rolling out globally on August 6, 2025. It aims to help users share content faster and help creators reach more people.

When you repost a reel or post, it appears in a special “Reposts” tab on your profile. This keeps reposts separate from your original posts. The reposted content can also show up in your friends’ and followers’ feeds, giving credit to the original creator while increasing their reach. To repost, users tap the repost icon, add an optional note, and save.

The new feature has received mixed reactions. Some users like it and compare it to retweets on X or reposts on TikTok. Others worry it might clutter feeds with repeated posts. Instagram says reposting encourages social sharing and helps people connect through shared interests.

Along with reposts, Instagram added a “Friends” tab in Reels. This tab shows content your friends have liked, commented on, or reposted. Instagram also introduced a new map feature that lets users share their location with selected friends. The map feature is off by default.

This update is part of Instagram’s plan to make the app more interactive and help users build stronger connections.
