Indonesian Protesters Loot Ahmad Sahroni’s Home After “Stupid” Remark

Protesters in Indonesia stormed the home of legislator Ahmad Sahroni in Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta, on 30 August, looting luxury items after he referred to demonstrators as “stupid.”

Crowds ransacked the property, seizing items including a large Iron Man statue and designer watches, while also smashing vehicles parked outside. The attack marked a sharp escalation in nationwide protests driven by anger over economic inequality and government policies.

Hundreds took part in the incident before military forces intervened to disperse the crowds. Despite the scale of the unrest, authorities reported no arrests.

The looting reflects growing public resentment toward political elites in Indonesia, with Sahroni’s remarks widely condemned as dismissive and inflammatory.

Tensions remain high as demonstrations continue across the country, underscoring deep frustration over living costs and governance.
