Ice Cube Discusses Dr. Dre Diss and Drake’s “Family Matters” Line

Ice Cube recently revisited his famous diss track, “No Vaseline,” and reflected on his “stick to producing” jab aimed at Dr. Dre.

In an exclusive interview with HipHopDX, Cube laughed as he explained, “That was all I could do, was tell Dre to do what you do best. Get off the mic and leave me alone!”

The conversation also turned to a similar line from Drake’s diss track, “Family Matters,” where he tells Metro Boomin to “shut your ho ass up and make some drums.” Cube admitted he wasn’t sure if his own diss inspired that line but praised Dre for his talents as a rapper.

He acknowledged Dre’s ability to deliver powerful lyrics, music, and performance, saying, “Dre is a formidable MC. He put out a record and everybody better run for cover.” Cube added that he wouldn’t use such a line again.

In the interview, Cube also praised Tyler, The Creator, calling him an ultra-creative force in L.A. He compared Tyler to legendary West Coast groups like The Pharcyde and Black Eyed Peas, noting how Tyler stays true to himself without conforming to the typical gangsta rap culture.

Ice Cube himself made a big splash in 2024 with the release of his 11th album, Man Down, which features appearances from Killer Mike, Busta Rhymes, Snoop Dogg, and more.

He also expanded his BIG3 basketball league and performed at the Los Angeles Dodgers’ World Series victory parade.
