In an exciting technological breakthrough, Huawei has been granted a patent that allows applications to run seamlessly across different operating systems on the same device.

The patent, titled “A Method for Running Applications Across Systems and Electronic Devices” (CN116775118B), was filed in March 2022 and officially approved in November 2024 by the National Intellectual Property Office of China.

The patented technology enables devices to simultaneously support two software systems, such as HarmonyOS and Android, allowing users to run apps from both systems without switching between them.

This innovation directly addresses the complexities of managing apps across different operating environments. It facilitates a smoother experience by allowing one system to access and display apps from the other, creating a unified and efficient interface.

The core functionality lies in its ability to retrieve essential app details, such as icons and executable paths, from a secondary system and display them directly on the primary system’s interface.

This approach ensures a seamless user experience where apps from multiple platforms are easily accessible with just a tap.

With this development, Huawei is paving the way for devices that integrate HarmonyOS and Android, offering users greater flexibility and convenience. The technology signifies a step closer to a cross-OS ecosystem, enabling more intuitive and efficient device operations.

This patent marks another milestone for Huawei as it continues to innovate in the mobile operating system space, enhancing usability and redefining what’s possible in the smartphone experience.
