Honor has announced the Magic V5, calling it the thinnest foldable phone in the world—if you ignore the camera bump and look at the white color version. The Magic V5 is just 8.8mm thick when folded, edging out the Oppo Find N5 by 0.1mm. Other color versions of the phone are slightly thicker, at about 9mm, due to their finishing materials.
The main “world’s thinnest” claim applies only if you ignore the phone’s triple camera module, which is thicker than either half of the device. Still, the Magic V5 packs top specs, including a 64-megapixel periscope lens for better zoom and image quality.
When open, the Magic V5’s frame is 4.1mm thin, again just ahead of its competitors. At 217g, it’s tied with Vivo’s X Fold 5 as one of the lightest foldables on the market.
Beyond its slim design, the Magic V5 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, features up to 16GB of RAM, and has a large 5,820mAh battery. Both displays are 120Hz LTPO OLED panels. The phone also supports wireless charging and comes with IP58 and IP59 ratings for dust and water resistance, making it almost as durable as top non-foldable phones.
The Magic V5 launches first in China, and Honor says an international release is coming soon. As foldable phones reach new levels of thinness, companies like Honor continue to push the boundaries, even if improvements are now measured in fractions of a millimeter. Stay tuned for more updates as the global release approaches.
