Hogwarts Legacy Gets Official Modding Support, Surpasses 30 Million Sales

Warner Bros. Games has announced official PC modding support for Hogwarts Legacy, marking the publisher’s first game to offer such features.

Starting January 30, a creator kit will launch, along with a mod section in the game’s main menu for easy downloading of selected mods. This new feature will be curated by CurseForge, a popular modding platform.

What’s New for Modders?

The Creator Kit will allow players to mod new quests, dungeons, and character enhancements, including cosmetics and skins. Mods can be submitted through CurseForge for publication in the game.

The kit will be available on the Epic Games Store, but both the Steam and Epic versions of the game can access the mods. This official support will make modding more accessible for the game’s large PC player base.

Modding Community and Gameplay Impact

While Hogwarts Legacy has already seen a variety of mods—ranging from quality-of-life improvements to wild additions like Thomas the Tank Engine and Shrek—the new official support will make it easier for players to install and manage mods directly from the main menu.

This change is expected to make modding more mainstream, especially for the millions of players who may not have previously engaged with mods.

Sales Milestone

In addition to the modding news, Warner Bros. revealed that Hogwarts Legacy has now sold over 30 million copies, a huge jump from the 22 million reported in January 2024.

The game has been a major success for Warner Bros., especially after the underperformance of Suicide Squad.

Future of Warner Bros. Games

Warner Bros. Games has focused its efforts on key franchises like DC, Hogwarts Legacy, Mortal Kombat, and Game of Thrones.

This shift in priorities follows the recent departure of David Haddad, head of Warner Bros. Games, and comments from David Zaslav, CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, about narrowing the company’s gaming focus.

The Impact of Mods

The partnership with CurseForge is a strategic move, offering Hogwarts Legacy players an endless stream of new content, ensuring the game remains engaging long after official updates.

With Avalanche Software focused on the upcoming sequel, modding will keep the game fresh for the community.
